BFP Entrance Exam: The Complete Guide to the CSC Fire Officer Exam

There is no written "BFP entrance exam" run by the Bureau of Fire Protection itself. The written eligibility exam for BFP applicants is the Civil Service Commission's Fire Officer Examination (FOE). Passing it gives you the Fire Officer eligibility, which is used for appointment to BFP ranks. It does not apply to PNP ranks.

This guide covers the real FOE format, the latest results, what we know about the next sitting, Fire Officer I pay, and an 8-week prep plan.

1. When is the next FOE?

• The last FOE was held on 7 June 2026 at 18 testing centers nationwide. Results were posted on 16 July 2026.
• CSC's 2027 exam calendar does not include an FOE, and no next date has been announced.
• Recent FOEs were held in October 2022, June 2024 and June 2026 — roughly every two years. Watch csc.gov.ph for the next announcement.

When CSC does announce an FOE, it publishes an examination announcement with the application window (in 2026 it ran 9 March to 8 April, two months before the exam).

2. What the FOE tests

The FOE has 150 multiple-choice test items, plus a 10-item personal-data questionnaire (EDQ) that isn't scored. You get 3 hours 5 minutes, pen and paper.

The key point: three-quarters of the exam is fire-service content. Aptitude drills alone won't get you through. There is no clerical subtest and no separate general-information subtest.

3. Passing score, fee and who can take it

• Passing: a general rating of at least 80.00. CSC does not recheck papers or round ratings.
• Fee: ₱700.
• Who can take it: Filipino citizen, 21 to 35 years old on the filing date (the age limit is waived for incumbent BFP employees and former BFP employees endorsed by the BFP), with a bachelor's degree, good moral character, and mentally and physically fit.
• Who can skip it: holders of the Career Service Professional eligibility, board/bar passers (RA 1080) and honor graduates (PD 907), among others, may opt not to take the FOE.
• Appointment also requires the height standard under RA 11549.

4. How many pass?

Sources: CSC results releases; 2026 passer count from the published list of passers. A 2024 FOE was also held on 2 June 2024.

Roughly one in six examinees passes. That's the reason to prepare seriously for the fire-service part.

5. After you pass

The FOE gives you the eligibility; it isn't a job offer. BFP recruitment is a separate process run by the BFP, with its own announcement, documents and screening steps. If you're a senior high school graduate aiming to join as an officer, the PNPA route is different: PNPA graduates can be commissioned as Fire Inspector.

6. The 8-week prep plan

Built for someone working a full-time job. Because the next FOE isn't scheduled yet, you can run this plan early and repeat the last two weeks once CSC announces a date.

Weeks 1–2: Diagnose and gather references

• Take a timed practice set covering all five parts (see the mock test strategy).
• Collect the official references: the Fire Code of the Philippines (RA 9514) and its IRR, RA 6975, RA 9263, RA 9592, and the arson provisions of the Revised Penal Code.

Weeks 3–6: Fire content first, aptitude alongside

• Mon/Wed/Fri (90 min): Fire Suppression and Fire Safety and Prevention — together they're half the exam.
• Tue/Thu (60 min): Fire Investigation and Administrative Matters.
• Sat (2 hrs): General Ability drills (verbal, numerical, analytical).
• Sun: Off.

Weeks 7–8: Full practice tests and taper

Two full timed practice tests per week, reviewing every wrong answer. Final three days: light review of notes and flashcards, then rest.

7. Fire Officer I pay

BFP pay follows the MUP Base Pay Schedule (EO 107, s. 2025), not the civilian Salary Grade table. A Fire Officer I earns ₱31,151 a month in base pay in 2026, plus a subsistence allowance of ₱350 a day. See the BFP salary guide for the rank-by-rank table.

8. BFP or BJMP?

The BJMP's written exam is the CSC Penology Officer Exam, held on the same day as the FOE. Its split is 50% general ability and 50% jail-service content. Compare the two in BFP vs BJMP.

9. Review costs

CSC doesn't publish past FOE papers — exam material is confidential. Most applicants combine the free official references (the laws and IRRs above) with a reviewer book, a review center or an online reviewer. Review centers charge a one-time fee for a fixed season, so check each center's current rates.

10. If you don't pass

Your next chance is the next FOE, which isn't scheduled yet. Use the gap: rebuild the fire-service part from the official references, and keep your general-ability skills sharp.
