Frequently Asked Questions
How is 13th month pay computed in the Philippines?
13th month pay = total basic salary earned during the calendar year ÷ 12. If you worked the full year at a fixed basic salary, that's simply your monthly basic salary. If you worked only part of the year, it's prorated — (monthly basic × months worked) ÷ 12.
Who is entitled to 13th month pay?
Under Presidential Decree 851, all rank-and-file employees who have worked at least one month during the calendar year are entitled to 13th month pay, regardless of position or how they're paid. Managerial employees are not legally covered, though many companies still grant it.
When should 13th month pay be released?
Employers must pay the 13th month pay on or before December 24 each year. Some companies split it into two releases (mid-year and December), but the full amount must be given by December 24.
Is 13th month pay taxable?
Under the TRAIN law, 13th month pay and other benefits are tax-exempt up to a combined ₱90,000. Any amount above ₱90,000 (including other bonuses) is added to your taxable income. Most rank-and-file employees fall within the exemption.
Does basic salary include allowances and overtime?
No. Basic salary for 13th month pay excludes allowances, overtime pay, holiday pay, and night-shift differential, unless these are integrated into the basic pay by company policy or a collective agreement. Use only your basic monthly salary in this calculator.
