The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) entrance exam is the gateway for fire service careers in PHL.
What BFP tests
5 sub-tests, ~3 hours:
- Verbal Ability — vocabulary, grammar, RC
- Numerical Ability — arithmetic, basic algebra, word problems
- Logical Reasoning — pattern recognition, syllogisms
- General Information — Constitution, PH history, BFP basics
- Clerical / Document — basic accuracy, alphabetisation
Total ~150-180 items. No negative marking — guess every blank.
Pass criteria
Composite ≥ 70% qualifies for further screening (PFT, medical, neuro).
BFP qualification rate
~30-40% of testers qualify.

- Officer track (with bachelor's degree + lateral entry)
- BFP National Training Institute access
- Career as professional firefighter
Career path
BFP pay follows the MUP base pay schedule (EO 107, s. 2025), not the civilian SSL. 2026 first-tranche monthly base:
