Allowances and bonuses on top of basic pay

The Salary Grade figure is only the basic pay. A DepEd teacher's actual annual compensation is meaningfully higher once mandated allowances and bonuses are added:

  • PERA — ₱2,000/month personnel economic relief allowance
  • Chalk (teaching supplies) allowance — ₱5,000/year
  • Mid-year bonus — one month's basic pay
  • 13th-month pay + year-end bonus — one month's basic pay
  • Cash gift — ₱5,000 at year-end
  • Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) — variable, tied to the agency's rating

How to move up the teacher salary ladder

There are two ways your pay grows. Step increments raise your basic pay within your current grade every three years without a change in position. Promotion — from Teacher I to II to III, and eventually to the Master Teacher track — moves you to a higher Salary Grade, which requires meeting DepEd's qualification, performance and (for Master Teacher) demonstration-teaching requirements.

The Master Teacher track is the highest-paying classroom path: a Master Teacher IV (SG 21) earns more than double an entry Teacher I, without leaving teaching for administration.
