How barangay pay actually works

Barangay officials are not paid a fixed Salary Grade salary. They receive an honorarium with a maximum pegged to a Salary Grade (DBM Local Budget Circular No. 63). The maximum follows the salary schedule adopted by the city or municipality the barangay belongs to, which may be a percentage of the national rates depending on the LGU's income class (DBM Local Budget Circular No. 172, 2026). Barangays whose funds can't cover the full rate may pay lower honoraria, at a uniform percentage for all officials.

The statutory minimum under RA 7160

The Local Government Code (RA 7160) sets a floor: at least ₱1,000/month for the Punong Barangay and ₱600/month for Sangguniang Barangay members, the barangay secretary and the barangay treasurer. Barangays may pay more, up to the SG-pegged maximum, as their funds allow. Under EO 64, barangay officials may also get a year-end bonus based on their monthly honorarium and a ₱5,000 cash gift.
