AFPSAT Mock Test Strategy: Schedule for the 5-Subtest Aptitude Exam
AFPSAT Mock Test Strategy: Schedule for the 5-Subtest Aptitude Exam
AFPSAT is a 3-hour, 5-subtest aptitude exam. Mock testing is the highest-leverage activity in any AFPSAT prep — yet most candidates take 0-1 mocks before the actual exam.
This post is the AFPSAT-specific mock strategy that the AFPSAT 2026 pillar guide hands off to.
How many mocks across 8 weeks
Plan for at least 3 full-length mocks plus 5-6 sub-test mocks.
| Week | Full-length | Sub-test mock |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 (diagnostic) | — |
| 3 | — | 1 (weakest from diagnostic) |
| 4 | — | 1 (Spatial — most candidates' weakest) |
| 5 | 1 | — |
| 6 | — | 1 (Numerical or Logical) |
| 7 | — | 1 (General Information) |
| 8 | 1 (test conditions) | — |
That's 3 full-length + 4 sub-test mocks. AFPSAT mocks are easier to fit than 6-subject PRC boards — single 3-hour sitting per mock.
Mock execution
A full-length AFPSAT mock should run continuously:
- 5 sub-tests, each ~30-35 minutes of testing
- 5-minute breaks between sub-tests
- Total ~3 hours
Set the timer for the full 3 hours. Don't pause.
Scoring honestly
AFPSAT has no negative marking. Score by:
- Total correct / total possible × 100
- Per sub-test breakdown
- Identify weakest sub-test for next week's allocation
Always guess every blank — guaranteed positive expected value with no negative marking.
What to do with each mock score
Within 24 hours:
- Score by sub-test
- Compute composite
- Identify weakest sub-test
- Categorise wrong items by topic block
The week after:
- 50% of study time goes to weakest sub-test
- 30% goes to second-weakest
- 20% goes to existing weekly plan
Pacing on test day
225 items in 180 minutes = 48 seconds per item average. Items vary:
| Item type | Realistic time |
|---|---|
| Verbal vocabulary/synonyms | 20-30 sec |
| Numerical word problems | 60-90 sec |
| Logical syllogisms | 30-45 sec |
| Spatial 3D reasoning | 60-90 sec |
| General Info recall | 20-30 sec |
Bank time on Verbal + General Info, spend on Numerical word problems and Spatial.
Test-conditions mock
Week-8 mock should replicate exactly:
- Same start time (typically 8am Saturday)
- Same testing-room conditions
- Same allowed materials (AFP-issued pencil, simple ID, no calculator)
- Same lunch you plan to eat
Mock sources
- AFP-released sample items (limited)
- Major review centres' AFPSAT packs
- Super Tutor's AFPSAT mock library — full-length plus sub-test mocks scored automatically
Realistic trajectory
| Mock # | Realistic composite |
|---|---|
| 1 (diagnostic, week 1) | 55-68 |
| 2 (week 5) | 68-78 |
| 3 (week 8, conditions) | 73-83 |
Targets:
- Officer track: composite 80+
- Enlisted track: composite 70-80
