Filipino Architect Career Path: Designer to Principal

Filipino architects (BS Architecture + ALE board exam) build careers in design firms, real estate development, government, and overseas markets.

Education + licensing pathway

Stage 1: BS Architecture (5 years)

Top PHL architecture schools:

  • UST (long-established Architecture programme)
  • UP Diliman (College of Architecture)
  • Mapúa University
  • DLSU
  • Bicol University, MSU, regional state universities

Cost: ₱25,000-₱120,000/year private; ~₱5,000-₱10,000 SUC.

Stage 2: Diversified Architectural Experience (DAE)

After graduation, must complete DAE before ALE:

  • 2 years of practical experience under licensed architect
  • Documents diversity of project types

Stage 3: ALE (Architects Licensure Examination)

PRC board exam:

  • 3 subjects across 3 days
  • History + Theory + Principles of Architecture
  • Structural Conceptualisation
  • Architectural Design + Site Planning + Architectural Practice

Pass criteria: weighted average ≥ 70 + no subject below 50.

National pass rate: ~50-65%.
