Getting Into MSU-IIT Through the SASE
MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in Iligan City is part of the Mindanao State University System and admits first-year students through the MSU-SASE. It's the MSU campus with the most demand: of the 61,183 students who took the SASE for AY 2026–27, 20,656 named MSU-IIT as their first preference.
How the application works
MSU-IIT runs the SASE application at sase.msuiit.edu.ph. Per the portal:
- Register online with your details and your preferred campus.
- Complete the form in steps: biographical data, educational data, parents' information, then campus and course preference.
- Go to the designated SASE test centre nearest you, present your requirements, and pay the ₱300 testing fee (non-refundable, at least two days before the exam).
- Take the SASE on the scheduled date, then check the results page when MSU releases them.
The requirements are your senior high school ID and ledger, a principal's certification that you're graduating (or Form 138-A for out-of-school youth), two 2×2 ID pictures with name tag, and the application form.
Why it's competitive
MSU sets each campus's admission cut-off from the median SASE score and the campus's absorptive capacity. With a third of all takers wanting MSU-IIT, its popular programmes fill up and the effective cut-off rises. MSU doesn't publish programme cutoffs, so you can't know an exact target score — "target score" tables online aren't from MSU.
What you can do:
- Score as high as you can across every area — English, mathematics, science and reasoning.
- Choose your course preference carefully. Think about which programmes you'd genuinely take, and have a realistic back-up.
- Keep other options open — another MSU campus, or other universities.
What to focus on
For engineering, computer science and science programmes, math and science depth matters most for your college years, and it's where many applicants are weakest. Build strong algebra, geometry, trigonometry and physics — see the math review and science review. Don't neglect English and reading, which run through every test.
Cost
MSU implements RA 10931 (free tuition law) for eligible students. You'll still need to plan for living costs if you move to Iligan — see MSU-SASE scholarship options for funding, including DOST-SEI for science and engineering programmes.
