MSU-SASE Math Review: Topics and a Four-Week Plan
MSU doesn't publish the SASE's subtests or how many math items there are. Past takers describe senior high–level math, so review the full scope below. If you're aiming for engineering, computer science or a science programme — especially at MSU-IIT — give math extra time.
Topics to review
Arithmetic and number sense
- Fractions, decimals, percentages
- Ratio, proportion and variation
- Divisibility, primes, GCF and LCM
- Order of operations
Algebra
- Linear and quadratic equations and inequalities
- Systems of equations
- Exponents, radicals and polynomials
- Functions and their graphs
- Arithmetic and geometric sequences
Word problems
Age, work, motion, mixture, number and investment problems. Most mistakes happen in setting up the equation, so write down what each variable means before solving.
Geometry
- Angles, triangles (including 30-60-90 and 45-45-90), polygons and circles
- Perimeter, area and volume
- Coordinate geometry: distance, midpoint, slope, equation of a line
Trigonometry
- SOH-CAH-TOA and special-angle values
- Angle of elevation and depression problems
Statistics and probability
- Mean, median, mode and range
- Reading tables and graphs
- Counting and simple probability
Practise without a calculator unless your test permit says one is allowed.
