How long does it take to make Captain?
PNPA cadets graduate as Police Lieutenant; the next mandatory time-in-grade is 3 years before promotion to Police Captain (eligible). Actual promotion depends on slot availability + performance ratings.
What's the difference between PNPA and lateral entry?
PNPA is the 4-year academy track; graduates commission as Police Lieutenant. Lateral entry is for licensed lawyers, doctors, CPAs, and engineers — they enter as PLt with credit for their professional licence.
Can NAPOLCOM passers reach officer ranks?
Yes — Patrolmen who pass the Career Executive Service exam, finish Bachelor's degree, and complete officer-track training can be reclassified as Police Lieutenant. Most reach this around year 8–10 of service.
