How the CSE is scored

You pass with a general rating of at least 80.00. The Professional exam has 150 scored items in 3 hours 10 minutes; Subprofessional has 145 in 2 hours 40 minutes. Both booklets also include a 20-item personal-data questionnaire that isn't scored.

Professional covers Verbal Ability (English and Filipino), Numerical Ability, Analytical Ability and General Information. Subprofessional has Clerical Ability instead of Analytical Ability. CSC doesn't publish how many items each area has, or how raw scores convert to the rating — so enter the item counts from your own practice test.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the passing rating for the Civil Service Exam?

A general rating of at least 80.00 for both Professional and Subprofessional. CSC results are final — no rechecking and no rounding.

How many items are scored?

The Professional booklet has 170 items and the Subprofessional 165, but 20 of them are a personal-data questionnaire that isn't scored. That leaves 150 scored items (Professional) and 145 (Subprofessional). CSC doesn't publish how many items each area has.

Is my percentage the same as my CSC rating?

Not necessarily. CSC doesn't publish how raw scores convert to the general rating, so treat this percentage as an estimate. It's a useful target: at 80% of the scored items you're at the passing mark if the rating tracks your raw score.

When is the next Civil Service Exam?

14 March 2027 (applications from 2 November 2026, first come, first served) and 8 August 2027 (applications from 10 May 2027), per CSC's 2027 calendar. Some CSC regional offices also run a small computer-based COMEX with limited slots.

Can I retake the CSE if I fail?

Yes, but you can't sit the same level again within three months of your last attempt (pen-and-paper or COMEX). If you pass, you can't retake that level.

How many people pass the CSE?

Few. For the Professional level: 16.18% in March 2026, 15.14% in August 2025 and 14.79% in March 2025. For Subprofessional: 12.49%, 14.73% and 12.60%.
