What the real Civil Service Exam covers
The Career Service Examination is run by the Civil Service Commission and gives the civil service eligibility that permanent government posts require. It has two levels: Professional (first- and second-level posts) and Subprofessional (first-level posts only). The main mode is a nationwide pen-and-paper test twice a year; some CSC regional offices also run a small computer-based COMEX.

The booklet also has a 20-item personal-data questionnaire that isn't scored. CSC doesn't publish how many items each area has. Subprofessional swaps Analytical Ability for Clerical Ability and has 145 scored items in 2 h 40 min.
Passing score
A general rating of at least 80.00, with no rechecking or rounding. It's a hard bar: 16.18% of Professional examinees passed in March 2026 and 15.14% in August 2025.
Next exam
14 March 2027 (applications from 2 November 2026) and 8 August 2027 (applications from 10 May 2027), per CSC's 2027 calendar. The fee is ₱500.
A study plan that works
- Diagnose first. Take this test and note your weakest areas — the 80.00 is one overall rating, so a couple of weak areas can sink an otherwise passing score.
- Bank the fundamentals. Numerical and Verbal reward speed on basics — short daily drills on percentages, fractions, grammar and vocabulary add up.
- Don't skip General Information. The Constitution and RA 6713 are learnable, high-yield topics.
- Train Analytical Ability with timed sets. Syllogisms, ordering and abstract patterns get faster with practice.
- Practise to the real time limit. 3 h 10 min for about 150 scored items — build the pace before exam day.

What is the passing score for the Civil Service Exam?
You need a general rating of at least 80.00, for both Professional and Subprofessional. CSC results are final — no rechecking and no rounding up. CSC doesn't publish how raw scores convert to the rating.
When is the next Civil Service Exam?
The CSC has set the 2027 pen-and-paper exams for 14 March 2027 (applications open 2 November 2026, first come, first served) and 8 August 2027 (applications open 10 May 2027). The 9 August 2026 exam has been held; its results are due on or before 12 October 2026.
What's on the CSE Professional exam?
150 scored multiple-choice items plus a 20-item personal-data questionnaire, in 3 hours 10 minutes. It covers Verbal Ability (English and Filipino), Numerical Ability, Analytical Ability and General Information: the Philippine Constitution, RA 6713, peace and human rights, and environment management and protection.
How accurate is this readiness score?
It reflects a 20-question sample (about 5 numerical, 7 verbal, 5 analytical, 3 general information). It's an honest snapshot of your current level and weak areas — not the CSC's computation. Use it to decide where to focus.
Does this work for the Subprofessional level too?
Mostly. Verbal, Numerical and General Information appear at both levels. Subprofessional has Clerical Ability (filing, spelling) instead of Analytical Ability, with 145 scored items in 2 hours 40 minutes — review clerical items separately.
