Together these three subjects are 50% of your PhLE rating:
- Pharmaceutical Chemistry (20%): Day 1, 8–10 AM
- Pharmacognosy and Biochemistry (15%): Day 1, 11 AM–12:30 PM
- Quality Control and Quality Assurance (15%): Day 2, 1:30–3:30 PM
Each must stay above the 50% floor.
Pharmaceutical Chemistry
- Functional groups in drug molecules; heterocyclic compounds
- Structure-activity relationships across major drug classes
- Drug metabolism (Phase I and Phase II); prodrugs
- Inorganic pharmaceutical chemistry
Pharmacognosy and Biochemistry
- Medicinal plants and their active constituents
- Crude drug evaluation
- Alkaloids (tropane, isoquinoline, indole, purine) and glycosides (cardiac, cyanogenic, anthraquinone)
- Volatile and fixed oils, tannins, flavonoids
- Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes
Quality Control and Quality Assurance
- Compendial standards and pharmacopoeial methods
- Titration, chromatography and spectroscopy basics
- Sterility tests, microbial limit tests and pyrogen testing (LAL)
- Stability testing
- Sterilization methods (autoclave, dry heat, radiation)
