MLE Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology Review
There's no separate anatomy or microbiology subject in the MLE. The five PRC subjects are Obstetrics, Fundamentals of Health Care, Infant Care and Feeding, Primary Health Care, and Professional Growth and Development. The PRC exam program says sociology, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, nutrition, parasitology, microbiology and pharmacology are integrated throughout them.
So these sciences show up inside clinical questions: why a pregnant client's blood pressure changes, which organism causes an infection, how a drug works. Weak basics cost you points in every subject.
Female reproductive anatomy
- External genitalia (vulva, perineum)
- Internal organs (vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries)
- Uterine wall layers
- Pelvic anatomy and pelvimetry
- Pelvis types (gynecoid, android, anthropoid, platypelloid)
Reproductive physiology
- Menstrual cycle (follicular, ovulatory, luteal phases)
- Hormonal control (FSH, LH, estrogen, progesterone)
- Ovulation, fertilization, implantation
Pregnancy physiology
- Hormonal changes (hCG, hPL, estrogen, progesterone)
- Cardiovascular changes (blood volume rises by roughly 40–50%)
- Respiratory, GI, renal and endocrine changes
Other body systems (review level)
- Cardiovascular: heart anatomy, circulation
- Respiratory: lung anatomy, gas exchange
- Urinary: kidney function, fluid and electrolyte balance
- Endocrine: hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, pancreas
- Nervous: brain divisions, spinal cord, nerves
Microbiology and parasitology
- Bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites
- Common pathogens
- Sterilization methods and aseptic technique
- Standard precautions
Common reproductive infections
- STIs: gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HSV
- Vaginal infections: candidiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis
- UTI in pregnancy
- TORCH infections

- Greek and Latin roots
