MLE Midwifery Board Exam: Format, Subjects and Passing Rule
The Midwife Licensure Examination (MLE) is the PRC board exam for midwives in the Philippines. It's paper-based, runs over two days, and is held twice a year (April and November in 2025 and 2026).
The five subjects

Each subject is two hours. PRC doesn't publish item counts or subject weights.
The PRC exam program also integrates these sciences throughout all five subjects: sociology, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, nutrition, parasitology, microbiology and pharmacology.
Passing rule
Under RA 7392 Sec. 16:
- General rating of at least 75%, and
- No subject below 50%.
Fee and eligibility
The exam fee is ₱600. You need to be a midwifery graduate or a registered nurse, with notarized case records from the last 5 years (5 perineal suturings, 5 IV insertions, 20 normal deliveries, 20 internal examinations).

What to review in each subject
PRC publishes the subject titles, not detailed topic lists. Here's a practical way to group your review under them.
Obstetrics:
- Antenatal care and high-risk pregnancy (recognize and refer)
- Labor and delivery, partograph, third-stage management
- Postpartum care and complications
- Obstetric emergencies
Fundamentals of Health Care:
- Basic care procedures, asepsis and infection control
- Health assessment and vital signs
- Medication basics for midwives
Infant Care and Feeding:
- Essential newborn care
- Breastfeeding and complementary feeding
- Growth and development, IMCI, immunization (EPI)
Primary Health Care:
- PHC principles, community health and health education
- DOH maternal, newborn, child health and family planning programs
Professional Growth and Development:
- RA 7392 and the midwife's scope of practice
- Ethics, leadership, research basics and continuing professional development
