ECE Board 2026 Reviewer: 4 Subjects, 70% Rule, 5-Month Plan
ECE Board 2026: The Complete Guide for Filipino Electronics Engineers
The Electronics Engineer Licensure Examination is the gateway to PH practice in telecommunications, semiconductor manufacturing, broadcast engineering, and BPO technical operations. About 6,000 graduates sit for it each October cycle, and the national pass rate is roughly 50% — the most balanced pass rate among PRC engineering boards.
This guide covers the four equally-weighted subjects, the 70% + 50% floor rule, school pass rates, and a 5-month review plan calibrated for fresh BSEE graduates.
For 2026: PRC's published schedule has the ECE Board on October 24–25, 2026. Application opens August 10, closes September 20. Verify on prc.gov.ph.
1. The four subjects
The ECE Board splits into four subjects across two days. Unlike CELE or ME, all four are equally weighted at 25% each:
| Subject | Weight | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 25% | Calculus, ODEs, complex variables, discrete math, statistics |
| GEAS — General Engineering and Applied Sciences | 25% | Mechanics, thermodynamics, engineering economics, management |
| Electronics | 25% | Diodes, BJTs, FETs, op-amps, digital electronics, power electronics |
| EST — Electronic Systems and Technologies | 25% | Communications, transmission lines, antennas, computer + network systems |
Day 1 covers Math + GEAS. Day 2 covers Electronics + EST. Each subject runs ~5 hours of testing time.
The equal weighting means no subject can be neglected. A weak subject pulls your weighted average exactly 1:1.
2. The 70% + 50% floor rule
Same as CELE + ME: 70% general weighted average + no subject below 50%.
| Math | GEAS | Electronics | EST | Weighted | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 75 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 71.25 | Pass |
| 80 | 75 | 60 | 70 | 71.25 | Pass |
| 85 | 80 | 45 | 75 | 71.25 | Fail (Electronics floor) |
| 65 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 68.75 | Fail (below 70% average) |
The most common ECE failure pattern: weak Electronics or weak EST due to under-preparation. Both subjects are deeply technical + benefit from hands-on lab experience that not all undergrad programmes provide.
3. Pass rate by school
PRC's published 2024 + 2025 data:
| School | First-time pass rate (recent cycle) |
|---|---|
| University of the Philippines (Diliman) | 92% (~80 takers) |
| Mapua University | 88% (~210 takers) |
| Technological Institute of the Philippines | 78% (~280 takers) |
| De La Salle University | 90% (~50 takers) |
| Saint Louis University (Baguio) | 75% (~120 takers) |
| National passing rate | 50% (~6,000 takers) |
Mapua + UP Diliman + DLSU dominate the topnotcher lists. Mapua specifically has the largest BSECE programme in the country and consistently produces the highest absolute number of new ECEs each cycle.
4. The 5-month review plan
Calibrated for a fresh BSECE graduate.
Month 1: Diagnose
Run one full timed mock — both days, all 4 subjects. Most graduates score 60–68 weighted average cold. The lowest subject is typically Electronics (op-amp + power electronics computational density) or EST (transmission line + antenna calculations).
Months 2–3: Foundations
With equal weighting, all 4 subjects need daily attention:
- Mornings (90 min): Math + Electronics rotation
- Afternoons (90 min): GEAS + EST rotation
- Saturdays (3–4 hrs): Subject of the week (rotating)
- Sundays: Off
Reviewer book picks:
- Math: Smith's Calculus, Espinosa's ECE-track ODE collection
- GEAS: Padilla's GEAS reviewer
- Electronics: Boylestad's Electronic Devices, Sadiku Microelectronics
- EST: Schaum's Communications, Frenzel Electronic Communications
Month 4: Practice
Question banks — 40+ problems per session distributed across all 4 subjects. Weekly mocks on Saturday, wrong-answer review Sunday.
Month 5: Final + taper
Stop new material. Drill flashcards (Smith chart impedance matching, OSI 7 layers, OSPF/RIP differences, common transistor configurations) + full mocks. Last week — taper.
5. The two areas most reviewers under-prepare
Electronics — Power electronics + active filters
Most BSECE programmes cover power electronics in 1 semester; the ECE Board devotes ~20% of Electronics items to switch-mode power supplies, rectifiers, inverters, and PWM control.
Fix: 4 weeks of power electronics + active filters drill in months 2 + 3. Solve 100+ rectifier + filter problems.
EST — Transmission line + Smith chart
Smith chart impedance matching shows up in ~10–15 EST items per cycle. Most reviewers can use a Smith chart in textbook problems but struggle under timed conditions.
Fix: drill 50+ Smith chart problems until the workflow is reflexive — read VSWR, plot point, rotate, read matched impedance.
6. What it costs
| Path | Cost | Anecdotal pass rate |
|---|---|---|
| Major review centre (Excel, IECEP, etc.) | ₱22,000 – ₱35,000 | ~75–88% |
| Online review course | ₱8,000 – ₱15,000 | ~65–75% |
| Self-study with reviewer books | ₱4,000 – ₱8,000 | Varies (45–75%) |
| Self-study + structured online tool | ₱5,000 – ₱12,000 | ~70–80% with discipline |
PRC fees: ~₱2,650.
7. Career outlook after passing
Telco (Globe, PLDT, Smart, DITO): ₱38,000–₱48,000/month entry as a network or RF engineer. Strong career ladder; 5-year senior engineer roles typically clear ₱75,000+.
Semiconductor manufacturing (Texas Instruments, NXP, Analog Devices): ₱42,000–₱52,000/month entry as a device engineer or fab engineer. Niche but high-paying.
BPO technical operations (Convergys, IBM, Accenture): ₱35,000–₱45,000/month entry. Lower technical depth, more career flexibility.
OFW — Singapore + Taiwan electronics manufacturing: ₱110,000+/month entry. Most graduates aim here year 3+ after 2 years local experience.
The ECE licence + 5 years experience qualifies for the Electronics Communications Engineer (ECE) sub-board.
8. If you don't pass
50% of first-cycle takers don't clear. Most retake within 12 months on the same study path; second-cycle pass rate is materially higher because reviewers know the gap they need to close.
ECE Board runs once a year. Plan accordingly.
