ECE Board: The Complete Guide for Filipino Electronics Engineers

The Electronics Engineers Licensure Examination (ECE board) licenses electronics engineers under RA 9292. In the last three sittings, 45% to 62% of examinees passed. PRC runs it twice a year, together with the separate Electronics Technicians (ECT) exam.

Schedule: the next ECE board is on October 17–18, 2026, with the ECT exam on October 19, 2026 (filing closed September 17). PRC targets releasing results on October 23, 2026. The first 2026 sitting was March 17–18 (61.62% passed). The sitting after October is expected around March or April 2027, but PRC has not yet published its 2027 schedule.

1. The four subjects

The ECE board is a two-day, paper-based exam of four subjects. From PRC's October 2026 program:

The two afternoon papers carry 60% of the weight between them.

2. The passing rule: 70% in each subject

Under RA 9292, Section 16, you must score at least 70% in each subject. It isn't an average.

If you pass a majority of the subjects and score 60–69% in the rest, you may take one removal exam in those subjects. Failing the removal exam means failing the whole exam.

The lesson: a strong subject can't carry a weak one. Build every subject to a safe margin above 70.

4. The 5-month review plan

Built for a fresh BSECE graduate.

Month 1: Diagnose

Take a full timed practice exam across all four subjects. Most people find Electronics Engineering or EST the weakest, since both are dense and computational.

Months 2–3: Foundations

Every subject needs regular attention because each one has its own 70% bar:

• Mornings (90 min): Mathematics and Electronics Engineering, alternating
• Afternoons (90 min): GEAS and EST, alternating
• Saturdays (3–4 hrs): the week's weakest subject
• Sundays: off

Use standard references for each area (calculus and differential equations, electronic devices and circuits, communications systems) plus a board-focused reviewer.

Month 4: Practice

Problem sets across all four subjects, 40 or more problems a session. A timed practice day on Saturday, wrong-answer review on Sunday.

Month 5: Final and taper

No new material. Flashcards for formulas and constants, full practice exams, then a lighter final week.

5. Areas people under-prepare

• Power electronics and active filters (Electronics Engineering): rectifiers, inverters, switch-mode supplies. Solve lots of problems, not just theory.
• Transmission lines and the Smith chart (EST): easy in a textbook, slow under time pressure. Drill until the workflow is automatic.

6. What it costs

• PRC fees: ₱900 for the full ECE board, ₱450 for a removal exam; the ECT exam is ₱600. Initial registration after passing is ₱1,050 (PRC Citizen's Charter 2026).
• Review: reviewer books, or a review center if you want a schedule and a classroom. Rates vary, so compare current prices.

7. Career outlook after passing

8. If you don't pass

• Removal exam: focus on the one or two subjects that were in the 60s.
• Full fail: rebuild from a new diagnostic, giving the weakest subjects the most time.
