CELE Mock Test Strategy
The CELE is a two-day exam with three subjects:
- Day 1: Principles of Structural Analysis and Design (35%), 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. (6 hours)
- Day 2: Applied Mathematics, Surveying, Transportation and Highway Engineering, Construction Management and Methods (35%), 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. (5 hours); then Hydraulics and Principles of Geotechnical Engineering (30%), 2:00–6:00 p.m. (4 hours)

Running a full-length mock
A full CELE mock is 15 hours of testing over two days, just like the real thing. Do it on a weekend: Structural on Saturday (6 hours with a short break), then Math/Surveying (5 hours) and Hydraulics/Geotech (4 hours) on Sunday. Practice only with the tools the PRC exam program allows you to bring. The free mock test timer helps you keep each block honest.
What to do with each mock
Within 24 hours:
- Score each subject
- Apply both pass rules: 70% weighted average and no subject below 50% (the free civil engineering board rating calculator does the math)
- Identify your weakest subject
- Sort wrong items by topic block
Pacing
PRC doesn't publish item counts per subject. After your first mock, divide the block time by the number of problems to get your per-problem budget. Quick formula items buy time for multi-step structural and geotech problems, so don't get stuck on one problem.
