PNPA doesn't publish an official subject list for the PNPA Cadet Admission Test, but reviewers consistently describe math questions at the senior high level. Review the scope below; PNPA doesn't say how many items there are or which topics carry the most weight.
Arithmetic and number sense
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Ratio, proportion and variation
- Divisibility, primes, GCF and LCM
- Order of operations
Algebra
- Linear equations and inequalities
- Systems of equations
- Quadratic equations
- Exponents, radicals and polynomials
- Arithmetic and geometric sequences
Word problems
Age, work, motion (distance = rate × time), mixture, number and investment problems. Define your variable in words, write the equation, then solve — most errors happen in the setup.
Geometry
- Angles, triangles (including the Pythagorean theorem and special right triangles), polygons and circles
- Perimeter, area and volume
- Coordinate geometry basics: distance, midpoint, slope
Basic trigonometry and statistics
- SOH-CAH-TOA and angles of elevation and depression
- Mean, median and mode; reading tables and graphs; simple probability
Practise without a calculator unless your test permit says otherwise.
