Is There Science on the PMA Entrance Exam?
No. PMA says its entrance exam measures applicants in three areas:
- Math — algebra and geometry
- English — grammar, composition, and reading and comprehension
- Abstract reasoning (the SPMA) — verbal and numerical reasoning, and pattern analysis
There's no science subtest in PMA's official description, and PMA's 2026 announcement told applicants to review "mathematics, English, verbal and numerical reasoning and pattern analysis". Reviewers and older guides that list a science section (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science) don't match what PMA publishes.
What to study instead
If you have limited time, put it where the exam is:
- Algebra and geometry — see the math review
- Grammar, composition and reading — see the English review
- Verbal and numerical reasoning and pattern analysis — see the SPMA review
And train for the physical fitness test (a 3.2 km run, push-ups and sit-ups in 2026), which comes after the written exam.
Where science still helps
Science isn't wasted:
- Reading passages can be on scientific topics, so being comfortable with science vocabulary helps comprehension.
- Numerical reasoning uses the same comfort with numbers, units and proportions that physics and chemistry build.
- Cadet academics — PMA's four-year Bachelor of Science programme is a full college degree, so solid general education carries over once you're in.
But treat science as background, not as an exam section to drill.
