Is There General Information on the PMA Entrance Exam?
Is There General Information on the PMA Entrance Exam?
No. PMA says its entrance exam measures three areas: math (algebra and geometry), English (grammar, composition, and reading and comprehension) and abstract reasoning, called the SPMA (verbal and numerical reasoning, and pattern analysis). There's no general information, current events or AFP-knowledge subtest in PMA's description. Reviewers that list one don't match what PMA publishes.
Where to spend your study time
- Math review — algebra and geometry
- English review — grammar, composition, reading
- SPMA review — verbal and numerical reasoning, pattern analysis
Plus training for the physical fitness test (a 3.2 km run, push-ups and sit-ups in 2026).
Background worth knowing anyway
You won't be tested on it in the written exam, but if you want to be a cadet, you should know the institution you're joining. From PMA's own history:
- PMA was formally created by Commonwealth Act No. 1 (the National Defense Act) on 21 December 1936. Its roots go back to the Academia Militar founded in Malolos, Bulacan, on 25 October 1898.
- It's located at Fort Gregorio del Pilar in Loakan, Baguio City.
- Its core values are Honor, Service, Patriotism.
- Since 1993 it has been a tri-service academy, with branch-specific courses in the last two years, and has admitted women cadets (under RA 7192).
- Graduates are commissioned in the Army, Navy or Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
It also helps to know the basics of the 1987 Constitution — in particular that civilian authority is supreme over the military — and the AFP's officer ranks (Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, and the general ranks).
If you're taking other exams too
Some government and college entrance exams do test general information. If you're also taking one, see its own guide — for example the UPCAT guide or the PNPA guide.
