Is There a Clerical Section in the NAPOLCOM PNPE? No: What It Covers

Is There a Clerical Section in the NAPOLCOM PNPE?

No. The NAPOLCOM PNP Entrance Exam (PNPE) has no clerical subtest. You won't be tested on alphabetizing, filing rules or document classification as a separate area. If a reviewer or practice set gives you a "Clerical Ability" section for the PNPE, it isn't following NAPOLCOM's published scope. (The Civil Service Subprofessional exam is the one with a Clerical section.)

What the PNPE actually covers

NAPOLCOM's announcement lists four areas for the 3-hour, pen-and-paper exam:

  1. General Information/Uprightness — the Philippine Constitution, PNP laws, the criminal justice system, social awareness and value judgment, and values
  2. Verbal Reasoning — vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms), comprehension (paragraph organization, reading comprehension) and grammar (correct usage)
  3. Quantitative Reasoning — percentage, fractions, number series, and problem solving including bar-graph interpretation
  4. Logical Reasoning — verbal and non-verbal

There's no separate "police knowledge" subtest either; PNP laws sit inside General Information. NAPOLCOM doesn't publish the number of items. The passing mark is 70%.

Where clerical-style skills still help

Clerical drills train two things: speed and accuracy on detail. Those matter on the PNPE even without a clerical section. Use short accuracy drills to support the real areas:

  • Number series (Quantitative): check each difference twice. A single subtraction slip sends you to the wrong option, and multiple-choice options often include the answer that slip would give you.
  • Bar graphs (Quantitative): read the axis labels and units before the bars. Practice pulling one exact value from a graph in under 20 seconds.
  • Reading comprehension (Verbal): compare the wording of each option against the passage, word for word. Many wrong options differ by one qualifier (all, some, never).
  • Grammar (Verbal): read the whole sentence before choosing, and check agreement and tense one more time.
  • Non-verbal series (Logical): track one feature at a time (shape, then shading, then rotation) instead of the whole figure at once.
  • Answer sheet: you shade with a No. 2 pencil. Every 10 items, check that the item number on your sheet matches the question. One skipped line can shift a whole block of answers.

A 2-week accuracy plan

WeekFocusVolume target
1Number series + bar graphs, timed, with a double-check routine60 items
2Reading comprehension + non-verbal series, then one full 3-hour practice test1 practice test + 40 items

Score each set for careless errors separately from items you didn't know. If careless errors are more than a handful, slow down slightly; if you run out of time, speed up on the items you know cold.
