CSE Sub-Pro Mock Test Strategy
CSE Sub-Pro Mock Test Strategy
A full practice test under exam conditions is the best way to find out whether you're near the 80.00 passing rating. This post shows how to schedule and run your own.
The real exam, in numbers
- 165 items: 145 scored test items plus a 20-item personal-data questionnaire (EDQ)
- 2 hours 40 minutes (8:00–10:40 a.m.), pen and paper
- Four areas: Verbal Ability (English and Filipino), Numerical Ability, Clerical Ability (filing, spelling), General Information
- No calculator and no devices
The CSC doesn't publish how many items each area has, so a practice test should cover all four areas in a roughly even mix.
Schedule across a 12-week plan
| Week | Full-length practice test | Area test |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 (diagnostic) | — |
| 4 | — | Numerical |
| 5 | — | Verbal |
| 6 | 1 | — |
| 8 | — | General Information |
| 9 | — | Clerical |
| 10 | 1 | — |
| 12 | 1 (full exam conditions) | — |
That's four full tests and four area tests. Build them from a reviewer book's practice sets or a pool of practice questions you haven't seen yet. Don't reuse questions you've already studied; your score will look better than it is.
Running a full practice test
- Start at 8:00 a.m. if you can, the same time as the real exam.
- Use a timer set to 2 hours 40 minutes. The free mock test timer works.
- Pen and paper, answer sheet, no calculator, phone in another room.
- No breaks you wouldn't get on exam day.
Pacing
With 145 scored items in 160 minutes, you have a little over a minute per item after the short personal-data questionnaire. A practical approach:
- Move fast through Clerical and vocabulary items, where you either know it or you don't.
- Spend the banked time on Numerical word problems and reading comprehension.
- Mark hard items, move on, and come back. Never let one item cost you three.
- There is no published penalty for a wrong answer, so answer every item before time runs out.
Scoring honestly
- Score each area separately as a percentage, then your overall percentage.
- The CSC doesn't publish how it converts raw scores to the general rating, so treat your percentage as a rough guide. Aim to be comfortably above 80% in every area, not just overall.
- Log every wrong answer with the reason: didn't know it, misread it, ran out of time. The reason decides what you drill next week.
