CSE Subprofessional Overview: Format and Eligibility
The Career Service Examination (CSE) Subprofessional is the Civil Service Commission's eligibility exam for first-level (clerical) positions in the Philippine government.
Next exam
The next sitting is March 14, 2027. Applications open November 2, 2026, first-come, first-served, and results are targeted for May 11, 2027. The second 2027 sitting is August 8, 2027. The fee is ₱500.
What CSE Sub-Pro tests
165 items (145 scored test items plus a 20-item personal-data questionnaire) in 2 hours 40 minutes, pen and paper, no calculator. Four areas:
- Verbal Ability — English and Filipino
- Numerical Ability
- Clerical Ability — filing and spelling
- General Information — the Constitution, RA 6713, peace and human rights, environment management and protection
The CSC doesn't publish how many items each area has. There's no published penalty for wrong answers, so answer every item.
Passing rating: a general rating of at least 80.00, with no rounding and no rechecking.
What CSE Sub-Pro opens
- Career Service Subprofessional Eligibility, valid for first-level (clerical) posts only
- Roles such as the Administrative Aide series (Salary Grades 1–6; ₱14,634 to ₱19,716 a month at Step 1 in 2026)

If you're aiming for second-level posts, take the Professional level: it covers first-level posts too. If you only need a first-level post, Sub-Pro is enough.
CSE Sub-Pro passing rate
Recent Subprofessional passing rates have been 12.5–17%: 12.60% in March 2025, 14.73% in August 2025 and 12.49% in March 2026 (CSC). That's usually a little lower than the Professional rate, so prepare as seriously as you would for Pro.
