USTET to UST Health Sciences: Nursing, Pharmacy, Med Tech, Pre-Med
Many USTET applicants are aiming for UST's health sciences programmes — nursing, pharmacy, medical technology, rehabilitation sciences, and pre-medical courses. This post covers how the USTET fits and how to prepare. It's part of the USTET pillar guide.
The USTET is the same test for everyone
Regular college applicants all take the same USTET: Mental Ability, English, Mathematics and Science, with part of your result coming from your grades. UST doesn't publish separate cutoffs for health programmes — or for any programme — so any "target score" you see online is a guess.
LEAPMed applicants take an extra test
UST's LEAPMed applicants take an additional LEAPMed Entrance Test in the afternoon, covering anatomy, botany, chemistry, physics, physiology and zoology. The LEAPMed application fee is ₱3,600, and LEAPMed registration for AY 2027–28 closes on 27 November 2026 — earlier than the regular 8 January 2027 deadline.
Preparing with health sciences in mind
- Science deserves extra time. Biology in particular — cells, genetics, human body systems — is the foundation of every health programme.
- Don't neglect Mental Ability. It's one of the four sections for everyone and the one most students have practised least.
- Keep your grades strong. Part of your USTET result comes from them.
Thinking about pre-med
"Pre-med" isn't a single programme. Students who plan to go to medical school later usually choose a bachelor's degree in a related field, such as biology, psychology or medical technology, then apply to medical school separately — which in the Philippines means taking the NMAT. If medicine is your goal, choose a first degree you'd also be happy to work in, in case your plans change.
Planning your choices
Because health programmes are popular and UST publishes no cutoffs:
- Put the programme you want most first.
- Add a related health or science programme as a realistic alternative.
- Make sure you'd be glad to take every programme you list.
