PUPCET Cutoff and Acceptance Rate by Campus

PUPCET acceptance rates differ dramatically by campus and programme. The PUP system runs Sta Mesa (the main flagship) plus several branches in Manila and provincial campuses. Each campus has its own programme offerings and quota.

This post is the realistic acceptance read by campus and programme cluster.

Overall acceptance rate

Approximate PUPCET applicant funnel:

CycleApplicantsTook testAcceptedAcceptance rate (of testers)
202385,00070,00022,00031%
202488,00072,00021,50030%
202592,00075,00023,00031%

The applicant-to-tester drop reflects no-show rate (~15% of applicants don't sit the test, often due to scheduling conflicts with UPCAT or other CETs).

Sta Mesa (main campus)

The flagship. Programme-specific cutoffs by tier:

Programme tierExamplesApprox. composite cutoff
Highly competitiveBS Accountancy, BS Civil Eng, BS Computer Eng80+
CompetitiveBS Computer Sci, BS BA, BS Industrial Eng75-80
StandardBSEd Math/Science/English, BSBA, BS Stats68-75
Less competitiveBS Library Science, BS Sociology, BS Communication62-68

PUP Sta Mesa is highly selective — its acceptance rate (~25%) is below the system-wide rate (~31%) because of higher applicant volume per programme.

Branch campuses (Manila)

PUP branch campuses in Manila — Bataan, Calauan, Pulilan, etc. — typically accept candidates with composite scores 5-10 points lower than Sta Mesa for equivalent programmes.

Campus clusterApprox. composite cutoff
Bataan65-72
Calauan60-68
Pulilan, Quezon60-68
Sto Tomas62-70

Provincial campuses

PUP campuses in provincial areas (Mulanay, Bansud, Maragondon) typically accept candidates with composite scores 10-15 points lower than Sta Mesa.

Reading the cutoffs honestly

Several patterns matter:

  1. Cutoffs move year to year by 2-5 composite points based on applicant volume and quota
  2. Programme-level quotas are firm. A "safe" composite for one programme is a denial in another
  3. PUP allows 3-choice ranking. List your dream programme first, realistic backup second, safety third
  4. Cross-programme transfer at PUP is paperwork-heavy. Choose your programme carefully

What target composite to plan toward

Work backward from the programme that fits your career interest:

  • BS Accountancy (Sta Mesa): target composite 82+
  • BS Computer Engineering (Sta Mesa): target composite 80+
  • BSEd subjects (Sta Mesa): target composite 72+
  • Standard programmes at branches: target composite 68+

When to stretch vs play it safe

PUPCET allows three programme choices ranked by priority. Strategic listing:

  • If your composite sits 2-3 points above typical cutoff for dream programme: list it first
  • If your composite sits 5+ points above typical cutoff: list dream first, realistic backup second
  • If your composite sits 10+ points below typical cutoff for any Sta Mesa programme: list branch campuses

Where Super Tutor fits

Super Tutor's PUPCET track doesn't predict acceptance per programme (cutoffs move too much). What it does is benchmark mock scores against historical campus tier patterns.
