ACET in 3 Months: A 12-Week Prep Plan

Most ACET candidates start preparing about three months before their test date. This is the plan that the ACET pillar guide hands off to. It covers the four multiple-choice areas Ateneo lists — mathematics, English, general knowledge and abstract reasoning — plus the essay. (There's no Filipino section on the ACET.)

Time budget

  • 1.5 hours per weekday × 5 = 7.5 hours
  • 4 hours each weekend day × 2 = 8 hours
  • About 15 hours a week, roughly 180 hours over 12 weeks

Week by week

WeekFocus
1Timed diagnostic across all four areas; list your gaps
2Math: algebra foundations
3Math: word problems and geometry; start daily reading and news habits
4English grammar; math: trigonometry
5Full timed practice set, then fix your weakest topics
6Reading passages and vocabulary; abstract reasoning patterns
7Remaining math topics; inference questions; general knowledge review
8Personal essay brainstorm and outline; sentence improvement
9Single-area timed sets (rotate math, English, abstract reasoning, general knowledge)
10Essay final draft; targeted drilling on weak topics; timed essay practice
11Full practice set under test-day conditions, then fixes
12Light review, one last timed set, rest

Weekends: a timed practice set or extended drilling on your weakest area on Saturday; review, planning and essay work on Sunday.

Daily habits

Across all 12 weeks: read one English editorial a day and keep up with the news. Together they build vocabulary, reading speed and general knowledge.

The essay

The ACET includes a timed essay segment, and your application includes a personal essay. Start the personal essay by week 8 and practise timed essays from week 10. See the ACET essay guide.
