ACET Math Review: Topics for the Ateneo Entrance Test
Mathematics is one of the four multiple-choice areas of the ACET, alongside English, general knowledge and abstract reasoning. Ateneo's FAQ says calculators aren't allowed (scratch paper is provided) and that the number of items varies from year to year. It doesn't publish a topic breakdown, so use the high-school math you've covered as your scope — and practise without a calculator from day one.

Algebra
- Linear equations and word problems
- Quadratic equations: factoring, the quadratic formula, the discriminant
- Systems of equations
- Exponents, radicals and polynomial operations
- Inequalities, including absolute value
- Sequences and series
- Functions: domain, range, composition
Word problems — ratio and proportion, age, work and distance — are entrance-test favourites. Practise setting them up quickly.
Geometry
- Triangles, including 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles
- Circle theorems
- Coordinate geometry: distance, midpoint, slope, equations of lines
- Area and volume
- The Pythagorean theorem
Trigonometry
- SOH-CAH-TOA on right triangles
- Unit-circle values for 0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°
- The Pythagorean identity
- Basic trigonometric equations
- Angle of elevation and depression
Number sense and arithmetic
- Divisibility, GCF and LCM
- Percentages, including reverse percentages
- Ratios and proportions
- Mixture and work problems
- Fraction and decimal arithmetic by hand
Statistics and probability
- Mean, median and mode
- Reading tables and graphs
- Basic probability
