LET Secondary: Picking Your Major Field and Why It Matters
The Major Field section is ~40% of LET Secondary. English, Math, Filipino, Science, Social Studies — each has different review depth. Here's how to decide and prepare.

Major Field = 40% of LET Secondary
LET Secondary splits three ways: ~20% General Education, ~40% Professional Education, ~40% Major Field. Which means your major — English, Math, Filipino, Science, Social Studies — carries as much weight as Prof Ed. Neglecting it is the single most common first-time failure pattern.
Picking Your Major
LET Secondary majors: English, Filipino, Mathematics, Biological Science, Physical Science, Values Education, Social Studies, MAPEH (Music/Arts/PE/Health), Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). You picked yours during your teacher education programme — the exam just tests what you already studied.
Review Depth by Major
- English: grammar, literature, composition, linguistics. Passing rate tends to be higher because reviewers cover it daily anyway.
- Mathematics: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics. Hardest major historically — practice problem-solving daily.
- Filipino: wikang Filipino, panitikan, ortograpiya. Strong pass rates; memorisation plus reading-depth heavy.
- Science: biology, chemistry, physics, earth science. Breadth is the challenge — rotate domains weekly.
- Social Studies: PH history, world history, civics, economics. Current-events heavy.
Major Field Review Rhythm
Give your major its own 45-minute daily block alongside Gen Ed and Prof Ed. Don't treat it as the third priority — it's equal to Prof Ed in scoring weight. In the final 3 weeks, add mock tests focused specifically on your major's domain.
