Complete LET Guide 2026: Elementary and Secondary Licensure

What is the LET?

The Licensure Examination for Teachers — officially the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT), but better known as the LET — is the PRC board exam every aspiring Filipino teacher has to clear. In 2025, about 141,700 examinees took the Secondary LET and about 77,800 took the Elementary version. PRC runs it twice a year (in 2025 and 2026, in March and September), and the Board for Professional Teachers handles the whole thing.

LET 2026 Schedule

PRC held the first 2026 LET on 15 March 2026, with results released on 12 May 2026. The second sitting was held on 20 September 2026; PRC targets releasing those results by 27 November 2026. The next LET is expected around March 2027, but PRC has not yet published its 2027 exam schedule. Applications go through PRC's online LERIS system during the filing window PRC sets for each sitting — for September 2026 it ran 22 May to 23 July. Always confirm with PRC — schedules shift more often than people expect.

LET Structure

The LET is a one-day, paper-based exam held on a Sunday.

• General Education — 150 items in 2 hours. 40% of the rating for Elementary, 20% for Secondary. Ten areas at 15 items each: Purposive Communication (English), Malayuning Komunikasyon (Filipino), Readings in Philippine History, Life and Works of Rizal, The Contemporary World, Art Appreciation, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Ethics, and Understanding the Self.
• Professional Education — 150 items in 3 hours. Teaching principles, curriculum, child and adolescent learners, assessment, field study. 60% for Elementary, 40% for Secondary.
• Specialization — Secondary takers sit their major (3.5 hours, 40%): 150 items for most majors, 120 for Mathematics. PRC's programme also has a separate track for "elementary teacher examinees with specialization", weighted Gen Ed 20%, Prof Ed 40%, Specialization 40%.

You pass with a 75% general average and no test below 50%.

Passing Rate

National passing rates are higher than most people assume. In the March 2026 LET, 56.03% of Elementary examinees passed (18,376 of 32,796) and 73.10% of Secondary examinees passed (45,001 of 61,561). Across the last four sittings, Elementary ranged from 45.51% to 56.03% and Secondary from 56.88% to 73.10%. PRC also publishes a performance-of-schools list with each results release on prc.gov.ph.

How to Prepare

Many reviewers plan 10–12 weeks of steady daily study. Rotate Gen Ed, Prof Ed, and your major so each one stays warm every week. Read the rationale for every practice item you miss — that's not optional. LET questions reward applied understanding of teaching principles, not memorised buzzwords.
