SHS Strands are the specialisation tracks within Philippine Senior High School (Grades 11-12). Choosing a strand shapes both your SHS curriculum and college programme eligibility.
Academic Track strands:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) — pre-engineering, pre-medicine, sciences
- HUMSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) — pre-law, pre-education, communications, psychology
- ABM (Accountancy, Business, Management) — pre-business, pre-accounting, finance
- GAS (General Academic Strand) — flexible, undecided
- A&D (Arts and Design) — fine arts, music, design
- Sports — coaching, athletic management
Technical-Vocational Track:
- TVL (Technical-Vocational-Livelihood) — direct workforce entry skills
What it means for you:
- Choose strand carefully — affects college options
- STEM students have most flexibility (engineering + medicine + most college programmes)
- Strand mismatch can cost you bridging courses in college
- Some universities allow cross-strand admission with conditions
