FSOE (Foreign Service Officer Exam)

Abbreviation: FSOE

DFA exam for entry into the Philippine Foreign Service / diplomatic corps.

FSOE (Foreign Service Officer Examination) is the entry exam for the Philippine Foreign Service. Among PHL's most selective exams (~1-2% pass rate).

5 stages:

1. Qualifying Test (QT) — multiple choice covering English, foreign language, world history, current affairs, PHL studies

2. Preliminary Interview (PI) — panel interview

3. Written Test (WT) — essay-based

4. Psychological Test (PT)

5. Oral Examination (OE) — final panel interview

Eligibility:

  • Filipino citizen
  • Single or married
  • Age 21-35
  • 4-year degree (any field)

Success path:

  • Pass FSOE → 1-year cadetship at FSI
  • Commission as FSO V (Third Secretary)
  • Career path: FSO V → IV → III → II → I → Career Minister → Career Ambassador
