'SIX-Z MINUS ONE-EIGHTY-THREE' — Multiply zone by 6, subtract 183. For Zone 51: 6×51 − 183 = 306 − 183 = 123°E. For Zone 50: 6×50 − 183 = 300 − 183 = 117°E. The 183 comes from 180 + 3 (3° is the offset to center of the first zone).

Finding the central meridian longitude of a given UTM zone, especially when verifying which zone a known longitude falls in.
What Each Part Means
Z = UTM zone number; 6Z = eastern boundary of zone Z (from 180°); −183 converts the eastern boundary to the central meridian by subtracting 3° (half of 6°) and 180° to convert to east longitude.
