CSE Sub-Pro in 3 Months: A 12-Week Study Plan

Twelve weeks is a comfortable runway for the CSE Subprofessional. The exam is 145 scored items (plus a 20-item personal-data questionnaire) in 2 hours 40 minutes, covering four areas: Verbal Ability (English and Filipino), Numerical Ability, Clerical Ability (filing and spelling) and General Information (the Constitution, RA 6713, peace and human rights, environment). You need a general rating of 80.00 to pass.

The next sitting is March 14, 2027, with applications from November 2, 2026. Counting back 12 weeks from exam day, start by about December 20, 2026.

Time budget

  • 1 hour per weekday × 5 = 5 hours
  • 3 hours on each weekend day = 6 hours
  • Total per week: 11 hours
  • Total over 12 weeks: about 130 hours

Sub-Pro has one fewer area than the Professional exam (no Analytical Ability), but it adds Clerical and passes at a slightly lower rate, so don't cut the plan short. Adjust the hours to what your diagnostic shows.

Week-by-week structure

WeekFocusHours
1Diagnostic practice test + find your gaps8
2English grammar + Constitution (Articles II and III)12
3Basic operations, fractions, percentages12
4Filipino grammar + RA 671312
5Mid-point full practice test + review12
6Word problems + alphabetizing and filing rules12
7Constitution (structure of government) + filing drills12
8Vocabulary + reading comprehension; spelling drills12
9Timed area tests (rotate the four areas)12
10Weak-topic drilling; peace, human rights and environment12
11Full practice test under exam conditions + review12
12Light review + last full practice test8

A "full practice test" here means 2 hours 40 minutes, pen and paper, no calculator. Build it from a reviewer book or from practice questions across all four areas.

Daily reading habit

Read one English and one Filipino editorial every day. It helps vocabulary, reading comprehension and spelling at the same time.
