Vocabulary
The highest-yield habit: read one English editorial a day and look up unfamiliar words in context.
Sentence completion
Read the whole sentence, find the context clues (especially transition words), and predict the kind of word that fits before looking at the options.
Reading comprehension
Practise these question types on short and medium passages:

- Inference
- Vocabulary in context
- Detail
Two habits help: skim the questions before reading the passage, and mark topic sentences and transition words as you read.
