Librarian Licensure Examination — a month-by-month study plan and how to approach each subject.
The exam in brief
Two days, computer-based, six subjects: Library Organization and Management (20%), Reference, Bibliography and User Services (20%), Indexing and Abstracting (15%), Cataloging and Classification (20%), Selection and Acquisition (15%) and Information Technology (10%). A weighted average of 75% with no subject below 50%. 68–75% passed in 2025 and 2026.

Month 1: Map the subjects

Month 2: First half of the syllabus
Library Organization & Management, Reference, Bibliography & User Services, Indexing & Abstracting

- Keep an error log
Month 3: Second half of the syllabus
Cataloging & Classification, Selection & Acquisition, Information Technology
- Work through your notes chapter by chapter
- Revisit topics from your error log
- Start timed practice sets
Final month: Exam readiness

- Do full-length timed practice under exam conditions
- Revise your weakest subjects, not your safest
- Confirm your PRC exam permit, venue and allowed items

How long should I prepare for the Librarian Licensure?
Most reviewees plan for three to six months, depending on how recently they finished their degree. Map every subject first, then give more weeks to the heaviest and weakest subjects.
How do you pass the Librarian Licensure?
A weighted average of 75% with no subject below 50%. 68–75% passed in 2025 and 2026.
When is the next Librarian Licensure?
The last Librarian Licensure was held on 3–4 September 2026 (computer-based). The next one is expected in September 2027 but hasn't been announced by PRC yet. The exam ran in September in 2025 and 2026. PRC has not published its 2027 exam schedule yet.
