DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examination — a month-by-month study plan and how to approach each subject.
The exam in brief
Three timed parts in one sitting: Creative Reasoning (mechanical, spatial and verbal reasoning) plus Language and Literature (45 minutes), Science (65 minutes) and Mathematics (70 minutes). Each item has four options, and you can't go back to an earlier part. Your score is the number of correct answers, so there's no penalty for guessing. 8.71% of examinees qualified in 2026 and 12.90% in 2025.

Month-by-month DOST-SEI plan
Weeks 1–2: Diagnostic
Three timed parts, no going back
- Take a practice set in the exam's order: reasoning and language, science, math
- Note which part ran out of time
- Set a daily 60-minute slot
Weeks 3–5: Science and mathematics
Together they take 135 of the 180 minutes
- Drill algebra, geometry and trigonometry
- Rotate biology, chemistry, physics and earth science
- Build a formula sheet from your mistakes
Weeks 6–8: Creative reasoning and language
Mechanical, spatial and verbal reasoning, plus language and literature
- Daily reasoning puzzles
- Reading and grammar sets
- Time yourself against the 45-minute limit
Final 2 weeks: Full timed practice
No penalty for guessing — answer every item
- Sit two full timed practice tests
- Review weak topics only
- Check your test permit and testing center

How long should I prepare for the DOST-SEI?
Most takers plan for 8–12 weeks of steady review, longer if the fundamentals are rusty. What matters more than the number of weeks is a daily slot you keep and regular timed practice.
How do you pass the DOST-SEI?

When is the next DOST-SEI?
The next DOST-SEI sitting is on 14–15 November 2026. Applications closed on 17 September 2026. Results are expected around March 2027.
