The exam in brief
145 multiple-choice test items plus a 20-item personal-data questionnaire, in 2 hours 40 minutes. It covers Verbal Ability (English and Filipino), Numerical Ability, Clerical Ability (filing, spelling) and General Information. A general rating of at least 80.00. 12.5–17% of Subprofessional examinees passed in each sitting from 2024 to March 2026. Passing gives first-level (clerical) eligibility.

Month-by-month CSE Subprofessional plan
Weeks 1–2: Diagnostic
Clerical Ability replaces Analytical Ability
- Take a full timed practice test: 2 hours 40 minutes
- Drill filing and spelling daily
- List weak spots in Verbal and Numerical
Weeks 3–6: Verbal, numerical and clerical
The three skill areas
- Grammar and reading drills in English and Filipino
- Arithmetic and percentages by hand
- Filing and spelling sets against the clock
Weeks 7–9: General Information
Constitution, RA 6713, peace and human rights, environment
- Short daily General Information sets
- Flashcards for facts you keep missing
- Mix all four areas in timed sets
Final 2 weeks: Full practice tests

How long should I prepare for the CSE Subprofessional?
Most takers plan for 8–12 weeks of steady review, longer if the fundamentals are rusty. What matters more than the number of weeks is a daily slot you keep and regular timed practice.
How do you pass the CSE Subprofessional?
A general rating of at least 80.00. 12.5–17% of Subprofessional examinees passed in each sitting from 2024 to March 2026. Passing gives first-level (clerical) eligibility.
When is the next CSE Subprofessional?
The next CSE Subprofessional sitting is on 14 March 2027. Applications open on 2 November 2026, first come, first served. CSC targets results by 11 May 2027.
