How to become a teacher in the Philippines

The path: BEEd or BSEd → LET → apply to DepEd or a private school

Pay: A public school Teacher I (Salary Grade 11) earns ₱31,705 a month at Step 1 in 2026, rising to ₱33,387 on 1 January 2027. Teacher II (SG 12) earns ₱33,947 and Teacher III (SG 13) ₱36,125, plus ₱2,000 PERA a month.     Finish your education degree

    BEEd to teach elementary, BSEd (or a degree plus 18 units of Professional Education) to teach high school.

    Pass the LET

    PRC runs the Licensure Examination for Teachers twice a year. Elementary takers sit Gen Ed and Prof Ed; Secondary takers add their Specialization.

    Apply to DepEd or a private school

    Apply through your DepEd schools division's hiring process, or directly to private schools.

    Keep your license current

    PRC IDs are renewed every three years, and renewal requires continuing professional development (CPD) credits under RA 10912.

About the LET Elementary

  • One day, paper-based. Elementary: General Education (40%) and Professional Education (60%). Secondary: Gen Ed (20%), Prof Ed (40%) and your Specialization (40%).
  • You pass with a 75% general average and no test below 50%. The fee is ₱900.
  • The LET was held on 15 March and 20 September 2026 (results for September are targeted for 27 November 2026). The next is expected in March 2027 — PRC has not yet published its 2027 exam schedule.
