How to become a midwife in the Philippines

The path: Midwifery program → Midwife Licensure Exam → PRC registration

    Complete your midwifery program

    Including the delivery-room case records PRC requires.

    Pass the Midwife Licensure Exam

    Five subjects over two days; PRC has run it twice a year.

    Register with PRC

    Complete your registration and oath-taking.

    Practise

    Rural health units, hospitals, lying-in clinics or private practice. PRC IDs are renewed every three years, and renewal requires continuing professional development (CPD) credits under RA 10912.

About the Midwife Licensure Exam (MLE)

  • Two days, paper-based, five subjects: Obstetrics; Fundamentals of Health Care; Infant Care and Feeding; Primary Health Care; Professional Growth and Development.
  • You pass with a 75% general rating and no subject below 50%. The fee is ₱600.
  • To qualify you need notarised case records: 5 perineal suturings, 5 IV insertions, 20 normal deliveries and 20 internal examinations within the last 5 years.
  • PRC's 2026 schedule has the exam on 14–15 April and 7–8 November 2026 (November filing closes 8 October; results targeted for 11 November).
