Four Tests, Four Different Formats
The top four PH college entrance tests — UPCAT, ACET, DLSUCET, and USTET — all gate competitive universities. But each one asks something different. Knowing what before you start reviewing saves weeks of misdirected effort.
UPCAT
- Format: 200+ items across Language Proficiency, Reading Comp, Science, Math.
- Style: Broad, academic, heavy on Math and Science.
- Scoring: UP Predicted Grade (UPG) — a composite of exam score and high-school grades.
- Passing: UPG cutoff varies by campus and programme. Diliman programmes are toughest.
ACET
- Format: English Reading, Math Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning.
- Style: Reasoning-heavy. Closer to an aptitude test than a knowledge test.
- Passing: No public cutoff. Ateneo evaluates the full application — grades, essay, exam.
DLSUCET
- Format: English Proficiency, Math, Science, Abstract Reasoning.
- Style: Balanced — tests both knowledge and reasoning.
- Passing: Composite score with high-school grades; portfolio for some programmes.
USTET
- Format: Language Proficiency, Math, Science, Reading Comprehension.
- Style: Closest to UPCAT in format, slightly less math-heavy.
- Passing: Cutoff varies by programme and faculty.
Which is Actually Harder?
UPCAT is the toughest in practice — passing is zero-sum, with only the top ~10% of 140,000 takers earning a slot. ACET's reasoning items can feel brutal if you've trained mostly on UPCAT-style content; the format change alone trips people up. DLSUCET and USTET sit in the middle.
Reviewing for All Four
The smart move? One review plan that covers shared Math, English, and Reading — then 1–2 weeks on each test's reasoning or format quirks. Super Tutor has dedicated UPCAT, ACET, DLSUCET, USTET, PUPCET, FEUCAT, CEUET, and MSU-SASE tracks — each at Focused Yearly ₱1,999, roughly the cost of a single classroom review package.
