Seven Subjects, One Exam
The Pharmacy Licensure Exam (PhLE) covers seven distinct board subjects. That's more than most PRC boards — and it's exactly why PhLE reviewers need the most rigorous subject scheduling of any licensure review.
The Seven Subjects
- Pharmaceutical Chemistry — organic and medicinal chemistry fundamentals.
- Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapeutics — drug actions, therapeutic uses.
- Pharmacy Practice — dispensing, counselling, patient care.
- Pharmaceutics — dosage forms, drug delivery, stability.
- Pharmacognosy and Plant Chemistry — plant-derived drugs, phytochemistry.
- Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence, Ethics, and Management — laws, ethics, pharmacy management.
- Quality Assurance and Quality Control — QA/QC methods, standards.
Passing requires 75% general average with no subject below 50%.
Memorisation vs Application Balance
Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmaceutics reward heavy memorisation — chemical structures, plant sources, formulations. Pharmacology, Pharmacy Practice, and Jurisprudence reward applied understanding — when to use a drug, ethical scenarios, how the law actually plays out. Your review time should split roughly 50/50 between these two modes.
14-Week Rotation
7 subjects × 2 weeks each = 14 weeks of focused review. Each 2-week block: Week 1 = concept drilling plus flashcards. Week 2 = timed practice plus mock questions. Weekly rest day on Sunday (light recall only). Final 2 weeks: full-length mocks every 3 days.
