Midwife Licensure Exam (MLE): What to Expect and How to Prep

What is the MLE?

The Midwife Licensure Examination (MLE) is the PRC board exam for aspiring Filipino midwives. The Board of Midwifery runs it twice a year — April and November. About 12,000–15,000 graduates take it per cycle.

2026 Schedule

Next cycles: April 2026 and November 2026. Applications open about three months before each. Confirm with PRC.

Board Subjects

• Primary Health Care — community health, disease prevention.
• Maternal Care — antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum care.
• Child Care — newborn, infant, and paediatric care.
• Family Planning — contraception methods, counselling, family spacing.
• Professional Topics — midwifery ethics, laws, scope of practice.

Passing requires 75% general average with no subject below 60%.

Passing Rate

MLE passing rates sit around 60–75% — relatively high compared to other PRC boards. But the content breadth is significant. First-time takers who don't cover Primary Health Care and Family Planning thoroughly often fail those subjects, even when their clinical subjects are strong. Don't skip the breadth subjects to over-invest in clinicals.

8-Week Review Plan

Weeks 1–2: Maternal and Child Care foundation — the clinical heart of the exam. Weeks 3–4: Primary Health Care and Family Planning — the breadth subjects. Weeks 5–6: Professional topics, ethics, scope of practice. Weeks 7–8: Timed mocks plus rationale review.
