Midwife Licensure Exam (MLE): What to Expect and How to Prep

What is the MLE?

The Midwife Licensure Examination (MLE) is the PRC board exam for aspiring Filipino midwives. The Board of Midwifery runs it twice a year — in 2025 and 2026, in April and November. In 2025, 7,180 examinees sat it across the two sittings. Graduate midwives and registered nurses can apply, but both need notarised records of cases handled in the past five years: 5 perineal suturings, 5 IV fluid insertions, 20 normal deliveries and 20 internal examinations. The application fee is ₱600.

2026 Schedule

The first 2026 sitting was held April 14–15, 2026, with results released April 20. The next Midwife Licensure Exam is on November 7–8, 2026, in 18 testing centres; apply through PRC's LERIS system by October 8, 2026. PRC targets releasing results on November 11, 2026. The sitting after that is expected around April 2027, but PRC has not yet published its 2027 schedule. Confirm with PRC.

Board Subjects

The MLE is a two-day, paper-based exam of five subjects, 2 hours each:

• Obstetrics — day 1, 8–10 AM.
• Fundamentals of Health Care — day 1, 11 AM–1 PM.
• Infant Care and Feeding — day 1, 2–4 PM.
• Primary Health Care — day 2, 8–10 AM.
• Professional Growth and Development — day 2, 11 AM–1 PM.

PRC's programme also integrates sociology, bacteriology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, nutrition, parasitology, microbiology and pharmacology into these subjects. It doesn't publish subject weights. Under RA 7392 you pass with a 75% general rating and no subject below 50%.

Passing Rate

Going by PRC's results releases, 57.35% passed in April 2025 (1,975 of 3,444), 57.60% in November 2025 (2,152 of 3,736) and 42.42% in April 2026 (901 of 2,124). The content breadth is significant. Takers who pour everything into the clinical side and skim Primary Health Care or Professional Growth and Development put their general rating at risk, even when their obstetric knowledge is strong. Don't skip the breadth subjects to over-invest in clinicals.

8-Week Review Plan

Weeks 1–2: Obstetrics — antepartum, labour and delivery, postpartum; the clinical heart of the exam. Weeks 3–4: Infant Care and Feeding, then Fundamentals of Health Care. Weeks 5–6: Primary Health Care — community health, disease prevention, family planning and DOH programmes. Week 7: Professional Growth and Development — midwifery ethics, laws, scope of practice. Week 8: Timed mocks plus rationale review.
