Engineering Board Review in the Philippines: CELE, ME, ECE, REE Compared

The Four Major PRC Engineering Boards

The Philippines runs separate PRC licensure exams for Civil (CELE), Mechanical (ME), Electronics (ECE), and Electrical (REE) engineers. Each one has its own subjects, weights, passing rule and schedule. Here's how they compare, using PRC's own exam programmes and results releases.

By Passing Rate

• CELE (Civil): 29.21% in April 2025, 30.39% in November 2025 and 35.05% in March 2026. The heaviest subjects are Principles of Structural Analysis and Design (35%) and Applied Mathematics, Surveying, Transportation and Highway Engineering, and Construction Management (35%).
• ME (Mechanical): 40.81% in August 2025, 51.86% in February 2026 and 36.95% in August 2026. Power Plant Engineering and Mathematics carry 35% each.
• ECE (Electronics): 45.39% in April 2025, 44.85% in October 2025 and 61.62% in March 2026. Electronics Engineering and Electronic Systems and Technologies carry 30% each, and you need 70% in every subject.
• REE (Electrical): 61.37% in April 2025, 38.92% in August 2025, 57.49% in April 2026 and 49.31% in September 2026. Electrical Engineering Professional Subjects alone carry 45%.

Rates swing a lot from sitting to sitting, so compare several sittings rather than one.

Format and Passing Rules

• CELE: two days, three subjects (35/35/30). Pass with a 70% weighted average and no subject below 50%.
• ME: three days, one subject per day (35/35/30). Pass with a 70% average and no subject below 50%.
• ECE: two days, four subjects (Math 20, GEAS 20, Electronics Engineering 30, Electronic Systems and Technologies 30). You need 70% in each subject; if you pass most subjects and score 60–69% in the rest, you get one removal exam.
• REE: two days, three subject groups (Mathematics 25, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects 30, Electrical Engineering Professional Subjects 45). Pass with a 70% general weighted average and no subject below 50%.

Review Length

There's no official figure for how long engineering reviewers study. A common plan is three to four months of daily review, longer if you're working. CELE and ECE have the widest subject coverage, so leave more time for them — you can't cram either.

The Common Failure Pattern

Every board has one subject that feels lower-stakes — surveying and construction management on the CELE, GEAS on the ECE, Engineering Sciences and Allied Subjects on the REE, Machine Design, Materials and Shop Practice on the ME. It still carries 20–35% of the grade, and on CELE, ME and REE a score below 50% in it fails you outright (on the ECE, anything below 70% is a problem). Don't leave it for last.

14-Week Plan Template

Weeks 1–2: diagnostic practice across all subjects; identify the weakest. Weeks 3–8: rotate subjects daily, with one weekly timed set per subject. Weeks 9–12: timed full-length practice, rebuild weak subjects. Final 2 weeks: exam-length simulation every other day; final-week recall only.

What's Next on the PRC Calendar

PRC's 2026 schedule set the CELE for 26–27 September 2026, with results targeted for 2 October, and the ECE for 17–18 October 2026 (Electronics Technicians on 19 October), with results targeted for 23 October. The ME (August 2026) and REE (September 2026) sittings for this year are done. PRC hasn't published its 2027 schedule yet: the next CELE is expected around March 2027, the ME around February 2027, the ECE around March or April 2027 and the REE around April 2027 — none announced yet.
