What is the UPCAT?

The University of the Philippines College Admission Test — UPCAT for short — is the gate into the UP system. Every year, around 140,000 senior-high applicants sit it. The catch? Only about 15,000 slots open up across UP Diliman, Manila, Los Baños, Baguio, Visayas, Mindanao, and Cebu. The math is brutal, and most takers know it walking in.

What's on the UPCAT

• Language Proficiency — English and Filipino grammar, vocabulary, usage. Standard senior-high stuff.
• Reading Comprehension — passages with questions on main idea, inference, and detail. Read carefully; the answers reward close reading.
• Science — Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science from your senior-high curriculum.
• Mathematics — Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and the basics of Statistics.

How to Prepare

Most applicants who pass review for 6 to 8 weeks at 45–60 minutes a day. Here's the rhythm that works: take a diagnostic mock first to see which section is weakest, then rotate Math, Science, Language, and Reading so each one gets touched every week. In the final month, run a full-length mock every weekend. That's where pacing and stamina actually get built — you can't fake them on exam day.
