What is the Criminology Licensure Exam?

The Criminologist Licensure Exam (CLE), run by the PRC Board of Criminology, is the board exam for aspiring criminology professionals — police officers, investigators, correctional staff, and criminology instructors. About 80,000 takers sit it every year.

CLE 2026 Schedule

The CLE runs twice in 2026 — June and December. Applications open roughly three months before each cycle. Confirm with PRC.

Exam Structure

Six board subjects, each weighted 20%:

• Criminal Jurisprudence and Procedure
• Law Enforcement Administration
• Crime Detection and Investigation
• Criminalistics
• Correctional Administration
• Criminal Sociology (including ethics)

Passing means a 75% general average with no subject below 50%. That second condition trips up more retakers than the first.

How to Prepare

Most passers review for 10–12 weeks. Rotate all six subjects weekly with rationale-driven practice. CLE questions test applied understanding of criminology law and procedure — rote memorisation alone won't cut it. The final 3 weeks should be weekly full-length mocks. You'll need the stamina because the actual exam runs across two days.
