CLE Career Value: PNP, BJMP, BFP and BuCor Pay and Paths

Sixteen weeks of CLE review is a big commitment, easily 200 hours or more. So what does the license actually open up?

What the license is for

RA 11131 (the Philippine Criminology Profession Act of 2018) regulates the practice of criminology. Two points matter most for your plans:

• You need to be a registered criminologist to practice the profession as the law defines it.
• The subjects covered by the licensure exam must be taught by a registered criminologist, so the license is required for teaching criminology.

PNP pay in 2026

PNP pay follows the Base Pay Schedule for military and uniformed personnel (EO 107, s. 2025), not the civilian salary grades. These are the 2026 (first tranche) monthly base pay figures:

EO 107 raises these again on 1 January 2027 and 1 January 2028. It also set the subsistence allowance at ₱350 a day from 1 January 2026. On top of base pay, uniformed personnel get PERA (₱2,000 a month) and other allowances and bonuses.

For entry into the PNP, you'll also see the NAPOLCOM PNP Entrance Exam, the eligibility exam for appointment as Patrolman/Patrolwoman.

BJMP, BFP and BuCor

These are also on the EO 107 schedule, not the civilian salary grades:

• BJMP Jail Officer I and BFP Fire Officer I: ₱31,151 base in 2026. The written eligibility exams are the CSC Penology Officer Exam (BJMP) and Fire Officer Exam (BFP).
• BuCor: uniformed Bureau of Corrections personnel are also covered by EO 107's base pay schedule.

Other paths

• NBI: agent positions have their own qualification standards. Check the NBI's current vacancy notices.
• Parole and Probation Administration: probation and parole officer posts are civilian positions under the salary grade system.
• Teaching: state universities and colleges pay faculty by salary grade. An Instructor I is Salary Grade 12 (₱33,947 a month at Step 1 in 2026).
• Private security, corporate investigations and compliance: pay depends heavily on the employer, city and role, so compare actual job postings.

When the CLE might not be worth it (yet)

1. You're sure you'll work outside criminology, such as in HR or a BPO. The license adds options but isn't required there.
2. You're already in the PNP. Your advancement runs through PNP promotion requirements, not the CLE.

For most BS Criminology graduates who want to work in law enforcement, corrections or teaching, the license is worth getting.
