Medical-surgical nursing for the NLE — NP III and NP IV
Adult medical-surgical content sits mostly in two NLE tests. NP III covers surgery, oxygenation, fluids and electrolytes, infectious and immunologic problems and cellular aberrations; NP IV covers nutrition, GI, metabolism and endocrine, and perception and coordination. That's a lot of body systems, so plan system by system.
The official rules
The NLE is a two-day, paper-based PRC exam of five Nursing Practice (NP) tests, each 2 hours long. You pass with a general average of at least 75% and no NP below 60%; if your average passes but one NP is below 60%, you retake only that NP and need at least 75% in it.
The last Nurse Licensure (PNLE) was held on 29–30 August 2026 (weather make-up days 11–12 September). The next one is expected in 2027 but hasn't been announced by PRC yet. The NLE months moved from May/November in 2025 to February/August in 2026, so the 2027 month can't be predicted. PRC has not published its 2027 exam schedule yet.

How to study it
- 1For each system, link the pathophysiology to the assessment findings and the nursing actions
- 2Practice priority questions until you can explain why the other options come later
- 3Learn drug classes with their nursing implications, not just their names
- 4Rotate systems so none goes untouched for more than a couple of weeks
- 5Keep an error log by system and redo those questions
