Study Burnout: When to Rest vs Push Through (PH Exam Edition)
Real signs of review-burnout for Filipino licensure and entrance exam preppers. When a rest day helps more than another practice block, and how to tell the difference.

Burnout Is Real in PH Review
Most Filipino reviewers study 12–16 weeks straight for a major exam. That kind of sustained effort hits a wall somewhere in the middle — usually weeks 6–10. Knowing when to rest and when to push through is what saves the review. It's not what derails it.
Real Burnout Signs
- Mock scores plateau or drop for 2+ weeks despite consistent review
- You can't recall concepts you knew last week
- Practice sets feel like chores; you stop caring about wrong answers
- Physical: sleep disruption, appetite changes, persistent fatigue
- Emotional: exam anxiety that wasn't there before
Fake Burnout (That's Actually Just Hard Work)
- You're tired at the end of a study session (normal)
- You missed one or two daily sessions in a week (normal)
- A specific topic feels frustrating (normal — rotate domains)
When to Rest
If you hit 3+ real burnout signs for 5+ days straight, take a structured rest break. 2–3 full days off. No practice sets. No flashcards. Sleep. Eat. See people. Come back with a reduced plan — 30 minutes a day for the first return week before ramping up again.
When to Push Through
If the symptoms are mild and infrequent, push through. Sustained review builds stamina and recall. Stopping for every rough day breaks the momentum that makes passing possible.
Prevent Burnout From Day One
- Schedule a rest day every 7 days of review. No exceptions.
- Cap daily review at 3 hours max. More isn't better.
- Sleep 7+ hours. Performance drops measurably without it.
- Eat real food. Rice and fried chicken won't fuel 12 weeks of review.
- Do at least one non-study activity daily — walk, talk to a friend, watch a short show.
