Highest-Paying Licensure Careers in the Philippines 2026
Highest-paying licensure careers in PH 2026 — ranked by entry pay, mid-career ceiling, and OFW premium, with the SHS strand and degree that gets you there.
By Super Tutor PH
The highest paying licensure careers in the Philippines aren't always the obvious ones. Doctors top the long-run ceiling but take a decade to get there. Nurses don't lead local pay charts but dominate OFW earnings. CPAs scale fastest in the first five years. This 2026 ranking blends entry-level pay, mid-career ceilings, OFW premiums, and how long the runway from SHS to first paycheck actually is. Salary ranges come from PSA labour surveys, DOLE wage data, Big 4 disclosures, and sector benchmarks.
How We Ranked These Careers
Three weights:
- Entry-level monthly pay (₱) — first job after passing the PRC licensure exam.
- Mid-career ceiling (10 years post-licence) — what the strong performer in this field earns.
- OFW premium — how much higher the same licence pays abroad in equivalent ₱.
We're focused on PRC-licensed careers — careers that need a board exam under the Professional Regulation Commission. Non-licensed careers (software engineering, marketing, founder paths) can pay more, but they're not licensure careers, so they're outside this list.
1. Physician (Medical Licensure)
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Biology / BS Medical Technology, then MD.
- Total runway — 4 years pre-med plus 4 years medicine plus 1 year internship plus 3+ years residency.
- Entry-level (post-licence, pre-residency) — ₱40,000–₱70,000/month.
- Specialist mid-career — ₱150,000–₱500,000/month.
- OFW premium — moderate. Many countries require local re-licensure.
Highest ceiling, longest runway. Plan for ten years before strong earnings begin.
2. CPA (Big 4 Track)
- SHS strand — ABM.
- Degree — BS Accountancy.
- Total runway — 6 years (4 years SHS plus 4 years college) plus CPALE.
- Entry-level — ₱25,000–₱32,000/month at Big 4.
- Mid-career manager — ₱90,000–₱180,000/month at Big 4. CFO/VP Finance roles run ₱200,000–₱500,000/month.
- OFW premium — strong in finance hubs (Singapore, HK, gulf, Australia).
Best fast-scaling licence in the country. The Big 4 ladder rewards licence holders who stay 3–5 years and then jump into industry. The CPA career pathway covers the route.
3. Civil Engineer (CELE)
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Civil Engineering (5 years).
- Total runway — 7 years SHS plus college plus CELE.
- Entry-level — ₱20,000–₱30,000/month.
- Mid-career project manager — ₱70,000–₱150,000/month. Senior PMs at large infrastructure firms run higher.
- OFW premium — very strong in gulf, US, Canada, Australia. Saudi and UAE construction premiums are 3–5x local pay.
Steady ladder, strong OFW route. The civil engineer pathway covers the full route.
4. Electrical / Mechanical / Chemical Engineer
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS in respective discipline (5 years).
- Entry-level — ₱20,000–₱32,000/month.
- Mid-career — ₱60,000–₱130,000/month. Energy and oil-and-gas pay premiums.
- OFW premium — very strong, especially gulf oil-and-gas and US tech-manufacturing.
Nearly identical to civil engineering for ladder structure. OFW route varies by sector.
5. Nurse (NLE) — OFW Track
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Nursing (4 years plus internship).
- Local entry — ₱18,000–₱28,000/month.
- Local mid-career — ₱30,000–₱55,000/month at private hospitals.
- OFW pay (gulf) — equivalent ₱60,000–₱120,000/month.
- OFW pay (UK NHS, US) — equivalent ₱150,000–₱400,000/month after experience.
Local salaries are middle-of-pack. The OFW premium is the highest of any Filipino licensure career. Most nurses leave the local market within five years for the gulf or UK. The nurse career pathway covers the OFW route.
6. Architect
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Architecture (5 years).
- Entry-level — ₱20,000–₱35,000/month.
- Mid-career — ₱60,000–₱150,000/month.
- OFW premium — moderate to strong in gulf and Singapore.
Earnings track portfolio more than tenure. Strong design-and-build practices in BGC and Cebu pay well. Gulf premiums apply but aren't as extreme as engineering.
7. Pharmacist
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Pharmacy (4 years).
- Entry-level — ₱18,000–₱25,000/month at retail; ₱25,000–₱40,000 at hospital and pharma manufacturing.
- Mid-career — ₱45,000–₱90,000/month.
- OFW premium — moderate. Some destinations require local re-licensure.
Good entry, modest ceiling. Pharma manufacturing roles pay better than retail.
8. Medical Technologist
- SHS strand — STEM.
- Degree — BS Medical Technology / BS Medical Laboratory Science (4 years plus internship).
- Entry-level — ₱18,000–₱25,000/month.
- Mid-career — ₱35,000–₱70,000/month.
- OFW premium — strong in gulf and US (with ASCPi credential).
9. Lawyer (Bar Exam)
- SHS strand — Any (HUMSS, ABM, STEM, GAS all viable).
- Degree — Bachelor's (any) plus Juris Doctor (4 years).
- Total runway — 10+ years.
- Entry-level — ₱30,000–₱60,000/month at law firms.
- Mid-career partner — ₱200,000–₱800,000/month at top tier firms.
- OFW premium — limited; legal practice rarely transfers.
Bar isn't under the PRC — it's under the Supreme Court — but it's licensure-style and often grouped here. High ceiling, long runway.
10. Teacher (LET)
- SHS strand — Any.
- Degree — BEEd or BSEd (4 years).
- Entry-level — ₱27,000–₱29,000/month at DepEd public schools (Teacher I, SG-13 + recent step adjustments).
- Mid-career — ₱40,000–₱70,000/month with master's degree and promotion.
- OFW premium — moderate to strong (international schools and gulf).
Local entry is one of the highest among public-sector licensure careers thanks to recent salary standardisation. International schools and gulf premiums add a strong OFW path. The teacher career pathway covers details.
The OFW Premium Pattern
One thing this list makes clear: a licence's OFW premium often matters more than its local salary. Nurses earn middle-of-pack at home but top-tier overseas. Engineers earn well at home and exceptionally well abroad. Doctors and lawyers earn well at home but poorly abroad due to re-licensure barriers. Pick the licence that matches your geographic ambition. The OFW licensure listicle ranks by overseas earning potential specifically.
Mapping This to Your SHS Choice
If you're choosing a strand right now:
- STEM — opens engineering, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, architecture, med-tech.
- ABM — opens accountancy (CPA) and business management (non-licensed).
- HUMSS — opens law, social science, education (LET).
- GAS / TVL — flexibility paths into education or trades-licensed careers.
The STEM pathway and ABM pathway guides cover the SHS-to-licensure route in detail.
