Check each school's current offer directly before you enrol, and compare what's actually included, not just the headline fee.

Online Options

Many review providers now offer online or recorded enrolment alongside the classroom, and there are standalone online reviewers and MCQ apps too.

Best for: working candidates and anyone who needs to study around a fixed job schedule.

What to check: whether the online option includes the same materials and pre-board or mock exams as the classroom programme, how you get questions answered, and when the content was last updated for current PFRS, PSAs and tax laws.

Mobile MCQ apps are useful as supplements during commutes. Standalone, they're rarely enough for a six-subject exam.

The Books Everyone Eventually Owns

4. Valix, Peralta and Valix — Financial and Intermediate Accounting

The Valix, Peralta and Valix financial accounting texts are staples of accountancy programmes nationwide, and many CPALE candidates already own them from undergrad. Use a recent edition so it reflects the latest PFRS amendments.

Pass Rate Reality Check

Review schools publish their own passer counts and percentages, and the basis for a figure isn't always stated. Ask how a number was calculated before you rely on it, and pick a reviewer for fit, not for marketing claims.

The only official national figures are PRC's: 33.11% in May 2025, 34.02% in October 2025 and 30.83% in May 2026. PRC publishes each result, and a performance-of-schools list, on prc.gov.ph. Use those, not brochures.

For Working Candidates Specifically

If you're juggling cpale while working, the classroom-first approach often fails. Weekday evening lectures conflict with audit deadlines. Weekend programmes work better for some, but burnout is real. Many working candidates do better with:

• An online option as primary (flexibility wins)
• One textbook reference per subject
• Enrolling only in a provider's pre-board or mock exams, if they offer that separately

That gets the structured timing of mocks without the schedule conflict of weekly classes.

For Repeat Takers

If you've sat the CPALE before, your priority is targeted weak-subject drilling. If you earned conditional credit, you only retake the remaining subjects, so re-paying for a full programme covering subjects you've already passed may not make sense. Consider:

Note that after two failed complete exams, PRC requires proof of a refresher course from a BOA-accredited school before you can file again, so check that requirement before choosing where to review.

No. There's no official ranking of review schools, and their own pass figures aren't calculated on a common basis. Pick the one whose format, schedule and materials fit how you study, then supplement where you need to.

Are online options enough on their own?

Should I use 2020 or 2021 reviewer books?

No. CREATE MORE changed Taxation and PFRS amendments changed FAR. Use recent editions.

How important are timed mock exams?

Very. Each CPALE paper is three hours, and timed full-length practice is how you find out whether your pacing holds. Check whether your review programme includes pre-boards or mock exams and what they cost.
